McElroy – Patrick

Patrick McElroy (known as Packie Edward) went to the US for a few years.  Packie and his wife Mamie had 10 children Patrick, James, John, Eddie, Maureen, twins, Eugene and Kevin, John, Tommy and Josephine and  lived in Corleaghan just off “the horse shoe road”.

The reeds/canes called “currag”, to the side of the door were propped against the door at night to block cold air coming through. Also visible to the right of the door is a creaner or creel, these were normally used in pairs across a donkey to carry turf from the bog.
