Lismore Rath

Lismore rath sits on the back of a drumlin ridge, taking advantage of wide views across the surrounding landscape. The monument consists of a well-preserved, oval platform defined by a scarped edge. Today, the interior is heavily overgrown and difficult to access, and no obvious entrance gap can be seen in the enclosing bank.

Raths were farmsteads occupied mainly during the early medieval period (c. AD 400–1100). They typically belonged to farming families and provided a protected space for houses, livestock and craftworking.

Several other raths are known in the vicinity, along with a number of unclassified enclosures that may be related to settlement and farming activity in the wider area.

Clogher Community Village Forum  received funding from Historic Environment Fund (HEF) Research Stream 2025/26 to install new signs at Lismore Rath.
